Just any other day at the beach, so I thought.?

I had spent my lunch today detecting in a high trash area that I new had plenty of clad.? I was hoping to find some older wheaties or some silver dimes maybe.? I found plenty clad but no silver or wheaties at all.?

Later after work I decided to stop at one of the many public parks along the beach to try out the sand a bit.? I was mainly looking forward to maybe finding some gold jewelry or something.? Well, I was also just looking to have some easy digging for a change :)

I had been at it for about an hour when I got multiple hits that were quite strong.? I thought to myself, great! someone had killed a six pack of corona's right here and I hadn't been here to help out :)? ?You could imagine my surprise when I pulled out the first coin!....then another,...and still one more!?

Here they are:? ?:o

I wish the ending to this story was one that everyone reading it would be so envious of me that they would worship me as the new 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet HUNTER :)? ? But, as they say,...It just isn't gonna happen.

After I got them rinsed off in the shower there at the beach I notice they are copies? :'(

You can see the lead starting to oxidize and swell on the edges.? What a bummer!? They are very cool though and one thing is for sure!? I almost stroked out? :D

So, the ending to this story is that I will be going to work tomorrow and I'm $1.74 richer in clad and I have some really neat copies of Spanish reales? :)

If I were you, I would go pick up a six pack of those Corona's and try and come down from the high you were on when you first picked up those coins!!! LOL, great finds anyway!

It really sucked when I noticed they weren't real.? They are really cool though, don't you think??

If I were you I'd take em to work and tell everyone they ARE Spanish Reales and worth about $50,000 each, just to watch their faces.
You'll end up with a lot of new hunting buddies.

You know? I'm still trying to figure out why? I mean, why would someone put them out there in the first place? :-\

They wanted to bust someone's chops I bet! Well,....my chops actually lol :D

I did like pulling them out of the sand though, even if they are fakes.

What a let down!....yep, I'd go for the suggested 6 pack :)

Find the guys drinking the beer and offer them a trade for these historic items. Of course you can embellish it any way you'd like. Jump up and down acting like you just found them in front of their spot on the beach.

Maybe they are old fakes that they would pass of has real to the natives?

I cant see why anyone would go to all the trouble to make fakes I'll bet they are old fakes I would check it out they may still be valueable, very old counterfits ;D

Wow, that is a bummer. I was enjoying your story until you got to the punch line. Sorry to hear they were copies. So goes it in this hobby. Still pretty neat though. HH

dont let it get u down...who knows-tomorrow u might find three real coins. Even if they're copies, their more than i ever found. lol

They sell those fake coins in souvenir shops by the bag. Probably some kids were playing with them and lost them. :'(

I bet it got your heart-a-pumping, though.

It sure did!

I pulled out the large one (8 raeles piece) first and it had the good side up so I couldn't see the swelled up lead popping out. I just kept saying out loud (mine you, I was by myself),"Holy *hit! Your kidding, Holy *hit".
