Went out this morning to get the year started. First "coin" I found this year was this piece of silver. Can anyone ID it with the little bit of detail that's available? Is it a piece of Reale or maybe a cob? I'm thinking Reale of some kind because of how thin it is. Cobs are usually pretty thick...At least from what I've seen. Haven't actually found one myself yet. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

Happy New Year and Happy Hunting!

It's a cob. (nice one too) Thinking half real but could be a one. Do you have a scale?

Just weighed it and it comes to 1.17 grams. Are cobs thin like that? Most of the cobs I've seen in photos look thick. This piece is skinnier than a dime.

Yes all looks good, it's a half real. A great start to 2012.

Is there any way to date this? 1700's? 1800's? Best guess anyone?

Based on the cross, it appears to be from Mexico.
Based on the weight, it would be a 'light' 1/2R; standard weight for an 8R of that vintage is nearly 27.5 g. Divide into 16ths and the 1/2R standard weight would be 1.7g. Yours is about 30% light--due to ??? The curved lines suggest one of the Philip kings who placed their monogram initial, "P" on the coin.
Don...
