N/W ARKANSAS
Detector(s) used
FISHER
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
THIS IS CARVED NEAR A HIDDEN MINE OPENING IN NORTH WEST ARKANSAS.
I RESEARCHED BOTH OF THESE S/S WHEN I FOUND THEM A FEW YEARS AGO
THE Z AT THE BOTTOM IS FOR ZINC. THE SIGMA TYPE S/S ABOVE AND TO THE
RIGHT OF IT I FOUND INFO STATING THAT IT WAS AN ALCHEMY SIGN TO HEAT
TILL WHITE HOT OR TILL IT MAKES WHITE SMOKE.
I CANNOT FIND THE OLD DOCUMENTATION AND I AM WRITEING A BOOK ABOUT
THE ADVENTURE OF THE HUNT AND NEED TO FIND SOME RELIABLE DOCUMENT
FOR REFERENCE.
THE TWO S/S IN THE PIC ARE ABOUT 18 INCHES WIDE AND 24 INCHES TALL.
THAT PART OF MY FIELD NOTES WERE IN MY PARTNERS POSSESION WHEN HE
PASSED AWAY, AND I HAVE NO WAY TO RECOVER THEM.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANKS

OH, I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I ALTERED THE COLOR IN THE PICTURE TO
MAKE THE S/S STAND OUT BETTER.

I'm not knowledgeable in this area. I advise you to make a copy of your photo, add bright color to the letters or symbols, then re-post using the highlighted picture which can easily be seen. Even when I re-sized your current picture larger and smaller, I could see only the "z" symbol clearly, not the others. By highlighting, you have a better chance of finding someone here with knowledge.

Best of luck with turning your adventure into a book! Andi

Can you get a picture that is more in focus?

I sharpened, and then reverse-negatived it.
Hope this helps.

I THOUGHT THAT I POSTED ANOTHER PIC OF THE BLUFF LAST NIGHT.
NOW I WONDER WHERE I SENT IT.
I'LL TRY AGAIN AND IF IT COMES UP THE MARKS THAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR ARE
ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLUFF.
AND THANKS FOR THE PIC ABOVE I THINK THAT WILL HELP TO SEE THE MARKS THERE AND ON
THIS NEW PHOTO.... IF IT WORKS THIS TIME.

THANKS

Is it alchemy sign? MAY BE FRENCH SILVER MINE AND NOT SPANISH.

YEAH, I WASN'T SURE WHY CHARLEY P. POSTED THE MOON SHOT EITHER UNTIL I COMPARED
HIS PIC TO MINE,,,, THEY DID LOOK A LOT ALIKE.
I HOPE MORE FOLKS DROP BY THIS SITE SINCE I FIGURED OUT HOW TO SHRINK AND CROP MY PICS.
AND YES I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON THE FORUM... LOT OF DATA THERE.
I'VE BEEN THINKING OF GETTING A SET OF PICS TOGETHER AND STARTING A THREAD THERE.
I DON'T WANT TO GET SO MUCH GOING THAT I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH IT.
I HAVE TO TAKE A LOT OF PAIN MEDS, AND CAN'T ALWAYS KEEP UP :icon_scratch:
IF I GET TOO SLOW ON ONE STRING RESPONSES I MAY NOT GET THE INFO THAT I'M LOOKING FOR. AND I DON'T WANT TO POST ANY MORE PICS THAT LOOK LIKE THE SURFACE OF THE MOON.
THANKS FOR THE INTEL ABOUT THE FORUM... I'LL BE READING EVERY CHANCE I GET.

Is it alchemy sign? FRENCH RATHER THAN SPANISH?

I HAVE ADDED A CLEAN PHOTO OF THE BLUFF. THE TWO SIGNS ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF
THE BLUFF. THE Z HAS BEEN NOTED AS NOT BEING SPANISH S/S. SO NOW I AM AT A LOSS FOR NEW INFO. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE Z OR THE SIGMA S/S ABOVE IT,
PLEASE GIVE IT A SHOT.
I WILL DELETE IN A FEW WEEKS IF NOBODY KNOWS.

THANKS

The Z may not be Spanish , but you have to remember that not every one was well learned back then. And they borrowed what they needed from what ever source they had .
I am not trying to confuse the issue , it is that you need to keep this in mind.
In Missouri they have a few of the older Spanish mines and the old French mines . And there are symbols posted and carved in the rocks there.
Someone came form the U , of Rolla back in the late 60's and told of how this was done and to look to the bible for finding out what they said as it was used like a dictionary of sorts as most could not write and spell very well. Of course you would have to find the bible that was used back then and what language . But this might give you a starting place. Also go the the Collage sites as most have data about symbols and what was used . I have found this in the past and it has helped . You may already know this of course !

I can not remember what site the data was from but you should be able to find this by searching the web . But I do remember that they had quite a few pages of data and what each symbol meant .

You seem to be able to read everyone's posts, so that excuse won't fly.
