A friend found a penny from the Isle of Man dated 16?? in Whitefish Montana so I would say anything is possible.

During the American Revolution, the British banned the export of their currency to the colonies. As a result, the colonies started using Spanish minted currency-- the most popular being cobs. So, yes, it is quite possible that you could find cobs in Vermont.
