I am posting this for a friend.

Today at work, one of my detecting friends brought in a few of his beach find coins for me to check out. They ranged from Indian Heads to V nickels to Barber coins that he has found in his 25+ years of metal detecting. And then something that quickly caught my eye and attention making me forget about the previously mentioned coins. At first I thought he may have thrown a replica in the mix to mess with me. But he swears he isn't pulling my leg.

This was black when he found it as most beach silver is and has been somewhat cleaned. The area it was found was a beach here in the Northeast, so the time era and location are good.

From the images I have quickly researched online, it appears to be a Spanish Cob or 4 reale, dating to sometime in the mid 1600's? I am not sure, which is why I am posting it in the "What Is it?" forum.

So come on Spanish silver experts, give me some good news....or perhaps bad news that I can report to him and tell him that he no longer wants it! :icon_jokercolor:

If these photos are lacking is because I am using a work camera, and not my personal cam or scanner. If need be I can scan them at high res for easier viewing and identification.

Hmm, I should have checked the "Today's finds" forum to see that metalfinder also posted a cob and that there is an actual "Spanish Cobs" section on T-net.. guess I missed that!...sheww....whoops.
