We were on an area called the mammoth shoal because of the number of mammoth teeth that had been recovered there. I had worked my way to the top of the area, found nothing. As I was going back down stream to the boat I was kinda bouncing off the bottom in a moonwalk fashion, and saw the tooth laying almost completely exposed, top up in a sandy area where you would not expect to find anything. I slammed on the brakes so to speak and went back a short distance to pick it up. I returned to the boat, elated and stuck my hand up out of the water first holding the tooth to show by dive buddies what I had found. Probably one of my best days on the river!

What a perfect specimen! Congratulations.
Good thing you kept your eyes peeled the entire way back.
Sounds like you went past it on the way up.

I had, but it was big and wide in that stretch of the river. I was working the opposite side on the way up as that side had rock and gravel exposed. The area where the tooth was is basically nothing but sand and you would not expect to find anything out on the surface in that area.

Good thing no one else thought so either.. I can't tell you how excited I'd be with that!
I'm excited for you.
