Sov.GT backorders

Hi all,

I've been reading these forums for quite a while, and have finally decided to take the plunge now that I'm not tied up with school and power shifts and ordered my first metal detector. I'm firmly in the "can't afford to buy cheap" camp, so I went with what many feel is the best all around, no bs/useless fluff machine, and ordered the Sov.GT with the 10x12" sef, and got an email from kellyco the next day saying it's on back order.

I've scanned a few forums and it seems quite a few people are waiting for their sov/excal, some for over a month. I'm curious if anyone knows what the deal is with the minelab shortage, and when they're expecting to have more available, I used to think it was only their top end gold machines but it seems thats not the case.

I see some posts about the sudan gold rush etc and sending all their machines over there, but neglecting customers world wide to make a quick buck in some hotspot seems like a poor long term business strategy so I doubt that's the case. I've got a bad case of Cabinfeveritis and waiting a month or longer for my detector would be kind of painful.

I feel your pain I ordered a Sov. Gt 2 weeks ago and it's backordered . The problem is Kellyco is not giving me any estimated time of arrival on their shipments from the factory which I find kind of odd. I can holdout with my other Garrett machines for a while. However, I might try finding a local dealer.

More than likely the shortage isn't with the factory it self as enough orders have to be placed before they order from the wholesaler. Or the wholesaler is waiting to place an order. Either way it doesn't help the customers that need the detectors NOW.

Well to be honest, this doesn't make much sense to me because Minelab dealers are all held to the same max. discount, and there has to be some new units out there somewhere to buy!

IP .. I think you are right if you would check with enough dealers on the web or in your area i would bet you could find some Sovereigns & Excaliburs out there.

I think it has more to do with the big factory change over to cheaper labor .

When I talked to Tina in Minelab about 3 weeks ago she told me some parts on some detectors are on backorder because Minelab is swamped for orders for their gold machines for overseas. They ramped up the production of them and that affected the manufactory of the other detectors....

Dollar to a donut it is still the same issue..........

i here they are opening a plant in Chicago...if true this would be nice! my new Excal ll has been on back order from Dec 27th 09...but did here they will be shipped in about 2 weeks!

You might want to check with T-Net member and dealer 4-H hes seems to be able get what you need . hes has some really good deals . Good luck

I ordered an etrac and same thing, because minelab put so much time into catching up with the gold detectors they ran out of all the other detectors too, and now etracs are backordered!

Just got a call from Kelley co,Their minelab order arrived today. My safari is on the way!
