I have considered getting a meter for it, but am wondering who has extensive experience with one and who would not operate without one. How accurate are they and what numbers correspond with what finds? I heard that Coiltek came out with a newer digital meter too, anyone have any info on it and where you can get one? Thanks for any experience anyone can share, Bryan

I use a Elite an have the new 180 meter, same as for GT an for coin shooting it is pretty good, quarters 179-180, dimes 178-180, older copper pennies 179-180, zinc penny in good shape 175, bad shape anywhere from 168-175, nickles 148-149. the sounds along with the #'s do help. now has far as gold 110-168 so you pretty much got to dig it all. It depends on where your hunting as far as the meter is good to have.I have had some coins show up with a very faint signal but the meter read 178-179 an turned out to be a dime at 10" so it will ID sometimes better than the sound, is it 100% nope but the sound is not 100% either but put the 2 together gives you more to work with.

I do listen to the sounds too but I am spoiled to the meter it sure cuts down on the trash, when it reads 180 I know its without a doubt a coin or silver, ok so I dug one water line but learnt my lesson. For me its worth it.

I have a meter and can tell you I've never gone out without it. I can also tell you that if you took it away, I doubt much would change. That's because I rely mostly on the tones. I take it along in case I happen to come across a gold piece of bling. In that case I hope to learn between the tones and the meter that I'm looking at gold. As I gain experience there's a chance I won't take it along. If you listen to the people in the know on this forum, there's a time to dig every signal. That's when your gonna dig something really good. The good stuff varies because jewelry varies so much, coins don't. Hope this helps.
God Bless
