South Texas civil war era relic

I have been detecting a private property in Waller Texas. I already found a lined I P Tait & co Limerick button, so I know the property dates back to the civil war era. I just found this relic and the text is almost complete. Pretty sure the 1863 is the patent date. Any ideas what it is?

"Atwood's Comet Burner," it's the shroud from a kerosene lamp. Here's a complete burner:

I've found several here in New York in various states of preservation and I believe they were manufactured in Connecticut.

Well, Paleomaxx beat me to it. We do find this type of item on CW sites up north here frequently.
