South Padre island

I wanted to find out if anyone has any info on the regulations of metal detecting on South Padre Island. I know its illegal on Padre Island, the section that is a National Seashore. Ive heard it was illegal on South Padre as well?? Is this true. Any info would be much appreciated

I am no expert on the law, however, my understanding is that it is not illegal on South Padre, only North Padre (just north of the Mansfield cut). I have metal detected several times on South Padre without anyone giving me problems. Unfortunately, I think North Padre would be much more interesting to detect

I spent about a week detecting on Padre Island, and without any problems. This has been about 10 years ago. There was another member on here not long ago, less than 6 months I would say, who asked the same questions about Padre Island. He did go hunt it, and did loose his equipment and finds to the local law enforcement. Confiscated. I haven't heard if he got it back or what fines he faced.
I would definately contact the Padre Island Law Enforcement and find out for sure where you can and can't go before attempting it.
