I found my first C.W. button today, it is a South Carolina Button and is in good condition with the shank in perfect condition. I found the same button in a C.W. Relics book that I have and it dates it at 1850-1865. I hope to post a picture of it here tommorow. I need to clean it but do not want to hurt it. Is it o.k. to clean it in peroxide? I have only used tap water on it so far but can not read the backmark nor what is below the palm tree design. I will wait for your guys advice before cleaning it further. Thanks and HH.
Update: I identified the backmark on it as Horstmann and Allien, According to Warman's Civil War Collectible Field Guide it is worth $185 dollars, got it as clean as I am going to attempt. Thanks for looking.
