SORTING COPPER CENTS

I don't know.... But I do remember in 1965 when most people weren't saving the silver coins.....

Back in 1965ish, when my dad and I started coin collecting, I just wish we were hoarding silver coins as we did wheat cents below 1940. If I did, I'd be sitting on a couple of TONS of silver by now. Oh had I only had known.

copper cents are about 2X face value. lots of guys here save them, but too much work for me, maybe someday I will smarten up.

I can sell them locally for 1.4c each. I sorted heavy for a while ($400+) but have stopped now. Not worth my time.

yeah that's how I feel about the $300 Krugerands now!!

Its somthing fun to do when its cold or shiiiy outside....I still do save all my copper cents while im sorting thru them...Most people think its a waste of time.

But if im sitting on my ass watching TV....it wouldnt be any differnt then doing it sorting pennies

I save the coppers.

For me, it helps when there are no Wheat cents ..............

Maybe it is in my head......but it works for me.

I save them, do a box or two a week. And sell copper cents on eBay for (15$ lots) $19.00 plus 6$ shipping.
That's the best way I've found to sell them fast.
Good luck :-)

Its a way to make money doing cents not much but if you save them till you have a couple hundred pounds you're sitting on quite a bit of money. I see $100 face 67.8 pounds I think. Sell for 169 ish on the bay and its under the 70 pound limit for the flat rate box

I dont know why I like pennies but I do, it is something I can afford to do during a long Montana winter. Did my first ten dollars worth today, came out with this. Also saved out about half a peanut butter jar of coppers.

Those are pennies that escaped the wrath of Canada's kilm

That's a lot of work for only $1.28 profit.

I save copper also, but I will hold onto them until a price that is more commensurate with all the work involved (acquiring, sorting, returning zinc, etc...) can be achieved.

A year or so back I was selling copper pennies for two cents a piece at my LCS. I would then buy silver with the profits. The LCS quit buying but I still have about $600 in copper pennies put away. I have also put together two Dansco books minus a few key dates. It's all fun.

I personally got lucky and got in just at the tail end and had some fun with boxes for ag. I grew tired of skunk after skunk, but I agree with Mr Riley "it's out there" But for me I have to weigh what my time was worth and what I was making on doing boxes CRHing...not even close to cover gas. So I just stack. But I have come to enjoy the relaxing hand search for copper and wheats, with a soldering stand magnifying glass...Winners in every roll!!! Here is my take.

1. Pennies satisfies the need for the "hunt" in me if you know what I mean.
2. Every pre- 82' penny i save i just doubled my money (I separate 82's by them selves that i'm pretty sure are copper to weigh to confirm if 97% copper)
3. I, like a lot of folks believe that in 20 years it's quite possible we will look back on this time very much in the same way we now look back on those early coin roll hunters. They found 5-10 in each roll but it was only worth 11-15 cents and for those that didn't have a lot of means couldn't tie up 5-10 dimes out of each roll for the next 50 years. And yes silver is more precious but it's always been gold, silver, copper.
4. The facts show any logical thinking person that bothers to look, Gold and Silver prices are manipulated and suppressed. There is a ton of evidence and thought by industry respected individuals and even some in the mainstream are starting to toot the horn (the gig is about up) aka wall street journal, fox etc but yellow journalism still runs rampant but I digress. So i can only assume the same is in place for copper??? Yes complete different uses and i don't think it will ever be any where close in price....but. There are certain individuals and researchers that have said that they think it is quite possible silver might actually be more precious the gold...and it's more useful, but that's for another post.

Best of luck!

If you can afford to keep stacking copper, do so. Consider it a small time investment. Face value of one cent ( providing U S does not demonitise the dollar/cent). You wont be out any money, and if you can get $.015/ per coin today, that's a 50% return NOW. That's as good as a company matching savings/investment plan, except you are the one holding on to the cash. If copper prices go to an extreme all time high, and if the U S goes off the Penny market, you stand to cash in big time. If none of this happens, you still have the penny tied up over time. Go for it, there is more copper coins still out there than remaining silver. I'm stacking copper as a small $ investment, for long term gains.
