Re: Sorry to post this here, but I need advice quickly...

Depends on the grade of the coins!!!!! It's all about the grades!

Re: Sorry to post this here, but I need advice quickly...

Here you go for a quick answer:

http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.chtml?type=date&filename=flying_eagle_indian_cent

Take the grade G price and tally up the total with a calculator.

Not knowing the grades and determining the value is a risk, so I selected the Good grade considering that you can see all the dates. The collection could be worth much more...

How much would you guys pay for an 1857 Flying Eagle, 60, 62, 63, 80, 81, 87, and 88-09 (excluding the 08s and 09s) Indian Heads? I have to decide if her asking price is reasonable.

Thanks.
57 FE in G cond-$22.00 in VF-$50
The IH's up to the 63 in G all go for about $10
The later ones for $3-$5

2007 Redbook prices, but real $$ are usually a bot less

If you think its too much make an offer,

make an offer anyway, it dos'nt hurt to haggle.

Yeah that's the way I did it. If I add them up at G condition, it comes to $143. She is selling them for $115, and I could probably talk her into $100 even. Should I?

Kiros,

The real price of a coin is what the buyer is willing to pay.

Do you get the feeling that she is an avid collector? Find out her reason for selling? Obviously you don't have pictures to rely on.
Is she local? $115 for sight UNSEEN? Hmmm... Could be a good investment.

Tell her that you appreciate her offering her coin collection to you for purchase and ask her if she is willing to take $75 then re-counter at $100.... Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks Musclecar, if I go by that auction, I got the shaft :D. I gave her $100 for them.

The story: I keep an eye on craigslist for Estate Sales in my area. I emailed this lady a few days ago and asked her if she had any coins available. She said she had her father's IH collection. He was 94 when he passed!!!

THE GOOD NEWS: The 1857 Eagle cent is in at least VF condition, possibly even higher. It is remarkably well preserved. Also, the 1863 IH has a full liberty and would probably grade XF. DISCLAIMER: I don't grade coins, these are guesses based on what I have seen on this forum and other sites. The rest of the coins are G to F. I may have paid too much, but now at least I have a nearly complete collection and I can replace the less quality ones with better as I find them.

You've done quite well..

Considering the 1857 and the 1860IH priced alone might cover your initial $100 purchase.
