Anything you pull out of the ground is saved from being lost forever minnesota outdoors north. Thanks for sharing...

Hope to see some great stuff showing up. Wish I could help with the machines but have no experience with the Garrett line. :icon_thumleft:

Dont sweat it, I suck at this game too.. Long as your having fun :occasion14:

I like my at pro much better, your ace was probally going off when you got down to that black sand around the water. My son and I both found great finds with the 250 (coin mode) with the sensitivity showing two or three open bars. But the AT Pro does much better. My son kind of lost interest when he felt the 250 was not doing as good as the AT Pro. I'm going to get him one for Christmas.

Good luck I wish I could come out and hunt with you, sounds very sweet, a logging camp. HH

I got my ace 150 almost a year ago, and I was really frustrated also. After a while I started to realize what tones were what. like for example, aluminum foil often rings up as a strong nickel signal and melted pieces of aluminum sometimes ring up as coins. my advice would be to get a lot of common junk, dig a hole on the beach or in your yard, and bury one piece of junk at a time and see how it rings up, that way you could avoid digging some of it. I still hunt with the ace 150 and I love it. Just keep at it, and you will find some awesome stuff.
Good luck and HH!

Remember the depth is based on coin sized objects, large items will be deeper than indicated.
Also there are lots of things (mineral (like black sand treblehunter mentioned)) in the ground (even air, interference like from an electric fence is a big one) that make a noise, but are not targets, remember REPEATABLE, and in the same spot. Beeps that don't beep every time, or tend to move around a bit are 99% of the time not what your looking for.

Generally too, the more depth / powerful the detector / or higher sens settings, the more noise there willl be.

The thrill is in the hunt! We will be seeing a ton of good finds from you no doubt. HH!

I did great with my ACE 250....I saw you mentioned getting an ATPRO....of course it has better depth and accuracy...But the ACE will do the job.

I know i always had issues if the Sensitivy was all the way up....With any machine...it takes time to read what its telling you....a 200 dollar machine and a 1500 dollar machine will still take time to figure out.

Good luck in your future hunts!!

I too started with an ace 250 and learned when its a good target it will ding like crazy and wont jump around on the indicator. My 2 oldest coins were found with my ace a 1899 indian head penny in my yard last year and just a month ago a 1891 indian head penny in mounds park. I just recently upgraded to a whites dfx but the ace will have a special place. good luck and happy hunting, Matt.
