So the family and I were doing the neighborhood garage sale thing yesterday. We had about a dozen people at our sale, family and friends selling all our stuff. It is one of those city wide deals so the traffic is ridiculous and you can pretty much sell anything. Anyway I had all my not so great finds out trying to recoup the money I spent on them. Mostly dollar items but some larger stuff. So a woman buys some dollar item off me and she hands me four quarters from her bag of quarters she is carrying around. I don't care change spends just as well as paper. Well she is trying to be slick and slips in a Canadian quarter. Well I think to myself ha joke is on her Canadian quarters are worth more now than American quarters. But this coin has a different feel to it, and sure enough as she walks away I give it a flip and it rings true. I look at the date, 1964. Only 80% silver but I will take it.

It is my first ever Canadian silver, that is why I didn't look at the date, I couldn't tell you when Canada stopped putting silver in their coins. (I know now) But I sure know what it looks and sounds like.

Happy sitting on your ass and people bring silver to you!

half way through 1968 we changed from a 50% silver coin to a non silver coin. up to then, with a small amount in 1967 of the same quality,we had an 80% silver coin.

In the early part of the century, we had a .925 silver currency
