Roswell, has often been described as the parade capital of New Mexico. While the UFO stuff makes headlines, the 8 or so parades per year seldom do. A lot of the parades are part of some festival which includes carnival rides, and concessions. They're held in the various parks about town, including the Court House lawn, and the biggest park, Cielo Grande. After words, I do my best to swing the areas where the concessions were located. I have a little help, as the assistant park supervisor is also an amateur radio operator, as am I. However, this leaves a bit to be desired, as one of the parks in question is nearly 4 square miles!

The last big event occurred during the Chili Cheese festival. Being the resourceful guy that I am, I took my Garmin GPS with me during the bash, as it were. Every time I was close to a concession, I marked the spot. The most important spot, was the ticket booth for the carnival rides! I made real sure that one got marked well!

The coordinates allowed to to pinpoint the locations very accurately (within a few feet). After marking off the area with some spray tempera paint, I set to work. All of my efforts paid off, as I came home with almost $15 in change. While that's not a fortune when compared with a diamond ring, I can at least buy a few batteries!

Great thinking sure paid off for you. I have never found that much clad in one hunt and would be very grateful if ever I do! Congrats. Go back and maybe that ring will find YOU!

As the saying goes you used your head for more than a hat rack.Way to go.
