Hi all..I hit a small beach area today. The body of water that it is attached to supposedly covers part of the old town site where I live. I wasn't expecting much cause I'm not quite equipped for water hunting yet. Anyway..I found this old wheat penny..only like the 5th one I've found. It's pretty toasty. I threw it in my pouch and moved on. Once I got tired of digging lead sinkers I went home. Upon examining my toasted wheat penny..I clearly saw 190 in my microscope loupe. I cannot make out the mint mark or see if the vdb is on the back..but it is special to me because it is the oldest coin I have found in my 3 years as a serious detectorist. Any advice on cleaning this guy up? Or should I just leave it alone? It's bent too..Lol

That baby is crusty! Congrats on your oldest coin. I'll let the experts chime in on cleaning methods...

so cool to see people post their firsts/or oldest finds, one of the reasons I come on this site

congrats, hopefully many more to come!

Oooooh weeeeee! That's a toasty wheatie!

Nice find anyway, I don't see too many '09's pulled on this site. The problem with wheats is the VDB and mintmark writing is very petite and corrodes very easily. That said just enjoy your century+ old coin!

Yeah this coin is toasty..but it holds a special value of it's own to me...now I'm motivated to get a sand scoop and hit the water at that location..who knows what else is there!
