Something silver

I found this at an old school it weighs over 7 grams. There is no threading on the inside and there is initials on the the top I believe they are JWH. It has no other markings and acid tested as silver. At first sight I thought it was an inside door lock nob for an old car.

That would be my first thought as well. . . my second thought would be a monogramed cap to a music conductor's baton.
