I was metal detecting along a known gold bearing stream. An historic mine on this stream was established in the late 1800's and the stream has seen a lot of mining activity since the initial discovery.

I found this piece of metal that looks like it might be a tool of some kind, or not. The tool (?) is approximately 16 inches long. One end is bent and ends with a point. The other end is curved and resembles a small dipper or sampling device.

I hope the photos show it ok, I had a fairly pronounced shadow around the tool.

What you have is a very cool looking, home made crevice tool. That
critter can get down deep in those crevices and scoop out bits of the
material. Lots of good gold is found in those crevices, so it might be
worth putting it to work for ya...:occasion14:

Yes, crevice tool, just like one we found at Mt. Bullion in the late 40's. You are bringing back good memories. We found the tool in the crevice the fellow had been cleaning out.

Thanks guys. Since this is a home made crevice tool, the age of the tool could range from present day back some number of years?
