This is an interesting piece. I noticed July is spelled Julius like a Roman calendar, which Julius Caesar named for himself. What does the back look like? Breezie

It appears to be a tobacco box...very interesting.

"The so-called perpetual calendar which is embossed in a relief pattern onto both top and bottom cover is modelled on the old rune staff. Six months are printed on each cover but the days are listed in letters rather than numbers. The letters A to G are repeated for each weekday, so that, in any particular year, A for a Sunday means B is a Monday, and so on. The calendar also has a number of symbols prescribing the best times for sowing and harvesting. The high festivals have their own symbols.

Calendar boxes were manufactured at Skultuna brass works near Västerås in Sweden from 1835 onwards, but already in the early 18th century boxes for both snuff and chewing tobacco were being made. Between the years 1832 and 1851 the brass works manufactured between 7 000 and 8 000 tobacco boxes. Through its general agent in Finland, Axel Schauman of Vaasa, Skultuna brass works would place advertisements in the local newspaper Vasabladet. An advertisement in a newspaper dating from 1878 includes a long list of goods from the brass works, and among them snuff and tobacco boxes."
