Found this 9 inches down. The Beast kept screaming in the upper right hand corner not quite at the silver range. The hole we made is still being filled in even though we dug it Monday!!! ;D :D :D ;D ;) It is brass or copper and it was made with the flat spots on both ends. What have I got here? The penny is for size reference.

Well I am glad someone else said that because when I pulled it out I thought that's what it was. Strange because of where I found it.

Right in the middle of Cape next to one of the busiest streets in town and half a block away from the site of a civil war battle site. So it is probably from time prior to automobiles and not more current.

Looks like a fitted locking ring for something..Slide the ring over the pipe or whatever and twist to get the flat places under where they lock..??????

I dont think it is a piece of tack or horse equipment .....It reminds me of the inside of an older radiator cap or gas cap ....similiar shape

This thing is pretty big and very heavy. But you are probably right, probably just more junk I have removed from its resting place.

We have seen those here before... with what looks like pressed and damaged sides... but they are made that way.

I'm not sure they have ever been properly identified...
