Look at the projectiles on the 20mm cartridges. Many of them have projectiles made up of more than one material.

My guess on yours.....one of the materials of the projectile rotted away while the rest remained.

Paleoman, be careful it may be unexploded / Live.

Here`s a pic of a 30MM dummy round given to me by a previous pilot of an A-10.

I`m thinking from Ft. Carson. Armor piercing if you don`t see any blu paint on it.

For those of you that couldn't open pippinwhitepaws pdf link, it's a de-classified military document that shows the engineering design and specifications for the round that Paleoman found. It shows the round with the same design as the one found, and that Monty posted an inhanced image of. No material is missing, that unique shape was designed on purpose. I concur that you can call it solved.

This is curious
the shell casing looks like a Co2 cartridge
The shell casing doesn't look to be corroded
Yet the the bullet end is severely corroded.
could this be a made up artifact?
