i would like to know the location to where u find all of your most awesome relics. yeah, i have come to the conclusion that some people are just odd, i mean who in thier right mind would give up thier fav site. for example, can anyone tell me of a good bottle dump location where i can find some old bottles worth between $100-$1000, serious, i mean, shoot, or how about a location where you found that pouch of large cents?????? some people are just too funny >:(

The woods off beach rd. in Huntington bay on the north side. great relics, Its also the exact spot Nathen Hale was nailed by the Red coats so many years ago,
or so they say. regardless its a great place to hunt.

I've stumbled across alot of "bottle dumps" on river/creek banks. usually banks that are steep... just walking along the shore I could see bottles sticking out of the mud, they are easy to spot. good luck :)

To ask someone there favorite spot may or may not make them nervous. I would think that most relic hunters has to do a bit of research if not extensive research. If you have a good partner like I do, Or even if you don't, You wouldn't want to tell everyone after all the work and research you have put into a project. I love to coin shoot and its no secret where to go. I like to relic hunt as well but it's a real challenge to do so. If a person goes about it systematically, then sooner or later they will find a nice little honey hole... Good luck HH Art...

Farmers didn't have garbage pickup. Each farmstead had their own little dump. I have seen little map books that list the landowner for each section of property. Pair that with a phone book and start asking permission!!! Maybe drive around and look for the farms with the oldest looking buildings, an indication that it has been around for quite awhile.

hi chong i can give you a few ideas ! research means many different things try a few of these.
1 go and have a chat to the old folks in your area, these folks are treasures themselves and know alot.
2 check the local graveyard and read the head stones for dates and names and then go to the public records and trace them to where they lived.
3 look for old buildings, homestead, factories and places where people gathered.
4 check the local waterways and places where there is a fall in the land.rain can often expose dumps
5 surfacing, this when an animal or someone has been digging and you see bits of glass and cermics laying on the surface
6 try and think like the people did in the old days e.g got an old house and they had to dump their trash and people would put it not far from house.
7 the local historical club.
8 learn to look at the ground and often if something does look right e.g heeps of dirt or a shallow depression in the ground have a bit of a dig.
9 go for a drive and check a few spots out and then plan which of these spots mit be a goer
10 roadworks, pipe laying, construction. machinery often expose relics.
11 on the day the weather stop you from going buy a book on the subject[hundreds of them]
12 if you get on to a good dump get a good share for yourself before you say anything
13 even in good dumps theres lots of trash.so take care and take your time
14 good luck and hope you find one soon

8)I have a favorite place in mind-It is a private beach club in Michigan-Been in use since the 1890s;2 beaches;100+ acres of open ground;EVERY time I go there;I find some GREAT things;-Old coins,jewelry;toys-The best part-I am the ONLY one allowed to detect in there-I have a life-time deal with the owner-I helped him out once when his vehicle broke down-His Words:"YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE I WILL ALLOW IN HERE TO DETECT-FOR LIFE"....Now,as for where it is-
It is in Michigan;somewhere between the Ohio border, and the Mackinaw Bridge.... ??? :P OH,BY THE WAY:THERE ARE SOME VERY STRICT RULES FOR DETECTING THERE:#1-I can only go there detecting before Memorial Day,or after Labor Day-I go the 2nd week of September;and Rule#2:Leave No Holes.....Tough rules to live by,indeed.... ;D :D ;) 8) :o

Night Wind, you must be able to get onto our Metro Parks like I do. They hire my group to clean the beaches during the summer season.

8)NO SIR;SANDMAN...This is NOT a metro park-completely private-it has a campground,too-I take my camper with me,and buy firewood when I get there(that emerald ash borer issue is a BIG thing)...Only very minor thing is there are no electrical hook-ups there...BUMMER-I GOT TO LEAVE MY ELECTRIC COOLER AT HOME!!...I got to run my radio on batteries-throw some ice in my other cooler-And,Im good to go!!! ;D :D ;)

Good luck to you and don't forget the mosquito repellent. I've got a little camper van I call a motorhome, but it suits me fine and I don't hve to worry about camping permits and can park it anywhere. Take care....

by the way,sandman-have you ever been to Wilson State Park in Harrison??I am thinkin of going over that way maybe Thursday,Im headed to my in-laws tomorrow in West Branch...

I'm not into relics or bottles, but my favorite places for coinshooting and cache hunting are wooded areas in or adjacent to public parks, preferrably with hiking, biking or riding trails. Some of my best finds have been in areas like that. Last best find in such an area was an 1807 draped bust 25 cent piece with AU details.

But you live in New Mexico, right? Isn't there supposed to be some kind of buried treasure on Taos Mountain? Have you ever hunted up that way? I remember passing by Kit Carson Park in Taos City the last time I was there skiing. I would have loved to hunt that park if I'd had my metal detector with me.

yes thats where i live, no i atually never heard of the taos treasure, there are countless treasures all around here from the spaniards to the 1800's, its just a matter of time to get out there, all i ever do is work work work, :( i do try to make time tho
