Sweet find! It's called a baby US buckle by diggers and collectors because of its small size compared to the usual US buckle. That size plate is much more of a rare find than the usual one. Congrats and keep pounding that site!
Sweet, learn something new everyday. This is what I also found. Imperial standard button and what I think is a brass stirrup but not really sure. All these were found about 5ft apart
From what I could gather from the family that owns the farm it’s a homesite. I’ve been told though that My buckle has been the 6th one pulled out of the ground on that property. All 6 buckles have been found in different locations on the property the last location of the 5th one was about a half mile away from mine and so have the others. At least within a quarter to half mile apart
Sounds to me like the farm property has a possible CW camp on it with six buckles found. The most common relic found in camps are bullets...have you found any yet?
Not me personally but about 4 or 5 years ago my cousin went there and he found 2 pocket fulls of Minnie balls and 3 ringers. I do know of wagon trail that runs through the property and they were all found along it.
Congrats on a great buckle. It sounds like you are on to something with the place you are hunting. I would be spending a lot of time there if I were you.
