I was fortunate enough to receive an invite to hunt one of Steve in Pa’s permissions Saturday afternoon. He had hit this site previously and his Deus had done a thorough job in the main flat mowed areas (my Nox could not sniff out anything he missed), but there were plenty of fringe areas still with targets. This post includes this hunt and a couple lunch hunts.

Roundness in the hole.

Maybe my best lead soldier so far, bent but lots of detail and complete.

My first lightning rod tip.

I thought it may have been a bayonet as this was in the next hole.

(Steve thought this was not CW, but more likely Boy Scout tent tightener.)

My most interesting find was on a steep slope near an old cellar hole only an inch down. 1820 -1950 farm location W PA, any ideas on this one?

The rest of the stuff.

Of course one of these popped out.

And I felt like someone was watching me when walking down the park woods path.

Down low between the trees was this dude. Snapped a pic, smiled and kept hiking.

Good luck out there!

Great assortment of finds. The lead soldier is really nice. The unknown in photos 6-8 could be a crushed lid for a coffee pot, sugar bowl, etc. What kind of metal is it?

Thx! It’s definitely an animal face, but not sure what it is from. Brass

Very interesting combo of finds and I think that Gnome had everything to do with it! :icon_thumright:

There appears to be a collar near the bottom of pics 6 and 7. If so, could it be a dog?

Nice finds out there in western Pa. Nice of Steve to give you the invite. Congrats.

Nice finds! Looks like some old stuff there. You are lucky you are in an old area where you can find that stuff.

I thought that pointy piece was a lightning rod tip when I first saw it, but didn't realize it was from a lightning rod / weathervane hybrid. Were you able to get a date on that piece from your research? Maybe there is more of it scattered around those fringe areas.

Yes, I think it is a dog or a human/dog caricature. Thinking maybe cane topper. Same brass thickness as powder flask found nearby.

From what I have seen online it looks to be 1880-1910 time frame. Definitely give the area around the silos a shot. Seemed like old dirt, not fill, and not as junky as I would have thought, especially on the slope.
