hunted a mid 1800s site yesterday and found this. Tia 20210417_075100.jpg20210417_075113.jpg

Not sure what it is. Looking at the first picture, the piece appears bent as there are stress marks along the crease. Also the rim is decorative. That plus the beveled screw holes leads me to think it could of come off a piece of furniture.

Being bent in the middle doesn't look accidental and it's odd the counter sink holes are on the inside. Not bent 90 degrees

Might be an inside corner brace from a steamer trunk or possibly from a chair.

The bend being very slow and not sharp tells me the the piece was originally flat and used like on a vintage screen door brace.

I think I found the other half of that a few days ago. Maybe a latch for a drawer or something of that sort.

From what I'm finding, I think bowwinkles got it. Screen door brace / latch.

Home made cable snare relaxing lock? I’ve made them from washers and pennies.

It does look very much like a "drowner lock", which is used in
trapping. But it's not.

If you look close (pic #1), the holes have been counter-bored for a screw
head. You'd never see that on a drowner lock.
