I found this last year at a homestead that was first inhabited in the late 1600's. I only had a short time to hunt there, but most relics I found were from the late 1800's. I am more interested in dating the object's time period than the actual ID.

Someone said an underwear button, but I am not sure.

believe it is a brass rivet from leather harness.
I have found several of these over the years.

Yep. Looks like a rivet and collar left after the leather has disintegrated. That would be some uncomfy underwear!
