Some sort of burnt Metal found

New to all this .. I found this in what appears to be an old burn pile buried underground although when I went to wash it it made a crackle sound when the water hit it so I immediately pulled it out of the water put it down in left alone and there it still sits LOL it was either a reaction to the water or a reaction to the toothbrush that I was using on it.

Molten metal can take some cool shapes, I'd continue cleaning and set it aside [or just leave it out in the rain]
