I have normally had great luck with small dealers on metal detectors. I ALWAYS left the conversation happy with my choice and feeling like I was treated well for a multi hundred dollar purchase.
This past few months I was looking for a detector.
Contacted 2 dealers I will not mention since they do business here. And had the following experiences.
First experience: Called concerning a machine that was at the top of my price range, was going to buy it and during the ENTIRE conversation I could not get the guy to concentrate on what I was interested in. He was continually talking about a $1500 machine that I had ZERO interest in. He knew I couldnt afford it but for some reason kept saying, "well for a few hundred dollars more....." Really pushy and rather irritating. I took my money and went elsewhere.
Same dealer, I asked about a certain machine. Now I wont put this as a complaint but more of a question. Every time I have ordered a detector from a forum dealer they always do their best to give us a deal. I am not cheap but like to make my money go far. I asked about a deal on a detector, was told that the lowest they could go was $7 off the listed price. Fine and dandy. Other dealers, same machine quoted quite a bit lower, 30-50 dollars in some cases.
Second experience: Called a dealer looking for some supplies, like a lesche and pinpointer. I asked him if he had X and X. He told me no on one and that he had the second one. Really didnt seem interested in finding me what I was looking for. Was rather dead sounding on the phone and when asked if something could be located since I had done business with him in the past, seemed to get kinda pissy about it. No biggie, I know people have bad days or whatever, but it was enough to make me take my money else where.
I am not mentioning who the dealers are as I am not trying to start a fight or drama. I spoke with my money. I posted this to let people know that it is not always better to go with small dealers. While I hate dealing with a certain large dealer, I think from now on I will just risk it and hope it works out.
