I never knew that Buffolo nickels were never made out of silver. Was it because of the World war 1? Anyway, Heres a pic of them all spread out. 2 Barber dimes, 7 walking liberties, 1 standing liberty and some buffolo nickels. Thankyou for all your help

Nickels are made of nickel. During WWII they used silver for a few years.

I like those half dollars. :)

Just because the half dollars are black, does not necessarily make them scrap. Pics are not clear enough on my computer. Can you read the date? You may have a rare date or you may have common ones. Are the details good with no scratches? Also do not clean. The patina is often desirable. You may clean with soapy water and a soft toothbrush that does not scratch. I would suggest to sell on e-Bay, or at least check e-Bay for prices. :)

Yeah it does depend on the coin. Those coins are definately not scrap silver. Its "junk" silver, which just means that it does not have a numismatic value. The junk silver is often sold in bags of 90% coins where the denomination is = 1000.00 same with 40% silver coins. Just do a search on ebay for junk silver and you will come up with lots of hits. Personally I would hold on to the coins, but then again im trying to build up a bag of 1000.00 junk silver coins :)

I recently sold some junk silver on ebay.I sold 16 halves mostly Walkers and Franklins with one Barber,The 16 together as a lot sold for $66.89.I also sold 13 junk silver quarters, they sold for $26.05.So it's safe to say you should get at least 8 times the face value.Unless you have a Key date or something, that is.Good luck. :)

I have no idea if this is the right place or not but here goes.
I have a very large uncut untreated CIRUNDUM crystal. It IS really SAPHIRE CRYSTAL.
I have no idea what the color is because like I said it is the way it came from the ground.
If anyone wants to see what it looks like I will send you a scan of it. When I say BIG I really mean LARGE.

There is a "rocks & gems" page in this same section "miscellaneous".Try posting it there.

In the last month I have bought over 700 no date slick buffalos for prices ranging from 12 cents to 23 cents apiece and shipping, because I am working on my acid date set. When I am done the 8 books of duplicates that I have will be offered on ebay. I also pay 12 cents each for black buffalos in quantity or full book for the ones I need to complete my set. Most of the ones that are sent to me were dug and then circulated which is not what I'm looking for. They get a pretty cameo appearance so maybe someday I'll try to make a set of them too. After I complete my set I won't buy any except the mintmarked slicks. I already have a lifetime supply of all the philadelphia mint coins. Your black silver coins came from the water. They turn that way from the sulphur released by rotting vegetation and other items in the water. They are just the opposite of clad coins that turn black in the dirt and stay shiny for awhile in the water. I'm talking about fresh water. I don't know what happens in salt water. exanimo, siegfried schlagrule

If you will notice the top line just under the forum's pictures of treasure you will see the button called METALS. This will give you the prices for Gold, Silver, etc per the troy ounce. Today silver is going for $12.12 an oz.

These coins are only going to go up in value and are worth more than the silver price to someone. Only sell if you need the cash to buy a new detector.

According to what see in the picture, you have a mininum of $32 worth of coins just going by averaging the silver value and common dates expected. If you have any better date and or high grade coins the value is more. I wouldn't take less than the $32 no matter what you do. I have been dealing in coins and metals for over 45 years, so I know what I'm talking about. The nickels are not silver. If the nickels all have good readable dates, increase the value to $37.

Thanks to every one who responded. These coins will not be scraped. Ive learned a lot more about coins recently and realized that these are actually relatively high grades, just have some dirt on them!
