It's been my goal this year to target older sites where I have a shot at finding colonial era coins and relics. So far, so good. Over the past couple of hunts ( 5/13 & 5/17) I've been paying more attention to an overgrown field that has previously produced a shoe buckle and an older US LC.
Taking my time, and listening for fainter. deeper signals I came across a shockingly slick large copper on Thursday.
Despite the lack of detail, this coin appears to be the same size and composition of a William & Mary Irish half penny I have come across in the past ( 25 mm, 5.4 g).
Returning to the same area on Monday, I hit a very deep signal ( 12 inches) that turned out to be a nice early shoe buckle frame.
I'll be back there tomorrow. Still more ground to grid out. I'll keep you all posted if there are any more interesting recoveries
