These pieces in my collection are typical of what came out of the Dakotas along the upper stretches of the Missouri River back in the good old days. Mostly Knife River Flint, all collected legally a long time ago.

Great stuff there, brother. What are your feelings on the white piece at lower right in the first picture? I won't say what it looks like 'cause I know you can tell a lot more about it in hand. Thanks for sharing those with us.

It's interesting all the different styles, very similar to GB knives. When were the good old days?

that piece is a highly patinated blade made of KRF and it has a nice large spoke shave worked into one edge. I think it’s pretty old.

The good old days was back when a person could hunt those sites legally. There were some huge collections built back in in those days.
I met one gentleman at an auction in North Dakota that had over 20,000 pieces he wanted to sell. 4 bucks a piece for everything. From what I’ve seen of collections in that area it would have been a steal even if half were thumbscrapers.

What made it illegal? Is it Corps land? I read some stories about river banks sluffing off and people doing really well in those places. Sounds like fun

Yes, with the series of dams, the Corp controls bout everything. Any private land is reservation or impossible to gain access to.

i know of one guy who had built a water cannon and put it to work. He ended up in big trouble. Lol maybe that’s who you heard about.

I was thinking old too. I know if I saw the upper edge exposed in the dirt, I'd be thinking paleo, maybe not so much in the flaking, but that lanceolate outline. Helluva piece no matter what.

Very Nice! I would say that several of those were inserted into bison ribs and used as a multi-fashioned knife.
