I got out to a spot I haven't visited in a while.
there's an old stone dam holding back a saltwater pond,
no sign of a mill though. :icon_scratch:
Dug a bunch of copper hardware.
a pair of pewter floral buttons, a rectangular pewter button,
and a couple of lead buttons, one is a nice floral.
Got some kind of silver dime, well its 18 mm.
best ID I can give it, this crust is tough.
Piece of a pewter platter, and a little buckle.
These finds show some age, nice relics.
Best Digs to Everyone

Sweet finds Steel! :icon_thumright: I'm quite curious as to what type of dime that is or maybe it's a half reale? You could try(?) acetone(non oil based) to clean it, according to my coin guy who used to metal detect and owns a reputable coin shop this will not damage silver. If all else fails give it as soak and see what happens...I hope it's a DB dime!

Thanks, none of my methods have touched it...
Will get some acetone tomorrow
A Drape would be fine ::)

Nice finds!!

Nice digs Herbie

Why don't you try some light electrolysis on that silver coin. That would be my preferred method in lieu of chemicals.

Thanks All!!
Dime turns out to be a Seated variety, I believe it was fire damaged,
My second with this tough crust, other was a Barber.
HH Everyone!

Interesting finds yesterday Herbie! :icon_thumright:

You're right about the Dime looking like it's been burned. :icon_scratch:

That site looks to be really old too!

Have a great July 4th today! :occasion16:

Happy Holiday To everyone!!
The lead buttons are among the oldest items I find.
Have only unearthed them at this site, I think I have 6 examples.
Similar ones are listed as 15th/16th century on 'Silversimons' website.
HH
