Some of weekend's haul, including a first

Have a new spot that I can't wait to get back to. Yesterday I only found one coin, and it was the first Mercury I've found in years. Also, I got
my first crotal bell,
a really cool old hinge,
a spoon,
two 3-ringers (one looked kind of chewed, but it likely isn't),
some kind of metal turkey,
a fancy jar lid with a ceramic inset,
some kind of large lead button,
a very old-looking (but undated) county dog license,
what looks like some kind of musical reed,
shotgun shells,
a neat old bottle,
and a sterling ring (looked for the stone with no luck).

Any thoughts on the button? Or anything else? Thanks for looking and HH!

I can certainly see why you just "might" want to spend some quality time there. ;)

Great variety!

Lead buttons? I would think they might be sewed into something that they would want to have weighted. So it might hang down properly? :dontknow:

Yeah, I thought it seemed like a dress weight or similar. But why put holes in those? Anyhow, the spot does seem to have some great variety, plus there's a bottle dump nearby that I'll do some sifting through as well.

If I'm not mistaken I think I've heard that women would sew them on the inside bottom of their skirts to keep em modest

That's kinda where I was going too. Maybe so they could sew them in the pleats? I dunno. My last dress didn't come out quite so modest. ;) LOL

Fascinating group of finds! Set up a tent there and spend a week! Oops, guess it's not that warm yet in Maryland, sorry! Looking forward to seeing more later! HH Andi

I wish I could camp there. Beautiful spot high above the Potomac, which you can see winding it's way to the northwest
