Hunted in several parks with my hunting partner Ray. We found a total of 6 silver dimes! Some were as deep as 6 inches, while others were only 1 or 2 inches deep! Much of the park we found the most silver was infested with gophers! We hunted on top of the gopher mounds and around them, that's where many of the silvers and wheaties were! Clads were numerous too, I dug 27 clad quarters. Total wheaties dug were 21! This park looks like a great spot! It's hard to believe it has not been discovered yet!

I love your finds and gopher hole maps! Congrats on a great hunt!

Looks like you had a fine day for finding silver. Nothing like coming up with 5 in one day. I was a bit concerned about your photo of the 1946 Roosie. Looking at the hole that was dug is scary. If someone can tell you were there detecting than your not doing a neat enough job. Looking at some of the holes with dirt spread all around I can't see how you could possibly clean it up. I hunt private property with permission all the time and if I ever dug a hole like that I'd be booted out of the county. Many parks and even whole towns have be shut off to detectorists because of sloppy digging. Sorry to sound so harsh, but please be careful.

Nice finds. Good pics. I like your posts.

Congrats on the silvers! GL&HH.

so where is this park?

Nice haul!! BUT I gotta agree with Don, you need to work on your pinpointing skills and your plug/hole making and covering. You really shouldn't need to make a hole more than 4" diameter max to recover a coin down to 6-7 inches. You should perhaps always carry a piece of plastic or small towel to put the dirt you've taken from the hole on. This makes it easy to get ALL the dirt back in the hole and leave no trace of it on or in the surrounding grass. I carry a one gallon plastic bag to put my dirt on, weighs nothing, easily fits in my pocket or finds bag. Then of course I read your heading about strip mining CA one coin at a time, that's kind of what your holes look like and they shouldn't. Keep at it with the nice coins, but please learn to dig less messily.

grate pictures thanks so much for a nice outing Ray

Nice findings there, haven't had a five silver day in ages out here !

Yeah, I agree your hole making skills suck! LOL.

It is nice to have a wide open public place like that where you can pull that many silver in a small area. Good luck!

Main thing is if you can leave the area looking better than when you were digging.

We have a rather unigue situation in many of our parks here in northern California. Gophers have ravaged through our once nice parks creating havoc. There are hundreds of gopher mounds of dirt spread out covering large areas, that's why we can dig messy plugs in some of the parks. Once I dig the hole and put everything back no evidence is left, it all blends in with the gopher damage. Believe me, in the nicer green grass parks without the gophers I am as clean as they come when digging plugs.

My pictures really don't show how bad the damage is in this park by the gophers. In this kind of park with all the gopher dirt mounds you can be messy with your plugs, it's almost like detecting on a sandy beach, you just fill the hole back in with sand. When hunting in well mantained green grass I use a small towl to trap the dirt from the hole and pour in back into the hole. Different locations sometime require different methods for recovery.
