So 2006 was my first full year of metal detecting. I started in the fall last year by purchasing an Ace 250 and a month later I upgraded to an Explorer XS....I had become addicted! I finished the year with 95 silver coins and 2 gold rings. I also got a handful of other silver jewelry and other misc. items.

The first picture is of all of my seated and silver 3cents for the year. Not pictured is a near slick no date seated half dime.

Next are my Barbers and Walkers. The 1916-S is a Key Date in the series and worth about $125 in G-4.

Pictured next are all of the foreign silver coins that I found this year.

And finally... the two golds rings I found with my Minelab Excalibur 1000. They are both 10k.

Good job, when do we get to see all the Indians?

Haha, I might have to take some pictures of them as well! I've got all kinds of other neat stuff that hopefully I can get around to organizing and posting sometime.

How have you been lately?

Very nice, Congrats!!!
You've been busy up that way... ;D
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

wow that is really impressive! the 16-s is a great find!

Love the Seated Quarter. That's next on the list. ;)

Great finds Brian. I remeber when you first joined TNET and were saying how your buddies were finding good stuff and you had that Explorer on order. But what happen to the Ace? Just gathering dust? Isn't it a good relic machine?

Everybody always gives the Ace too much credit. I've only seen an Ace 250 find one single silver coin at a park in my town. Sure, they are great in virgin spots, but when it comes to finding deep stuff it just doesn't hold up to the Explorer.

As for relics.... Well there aren't really any relics here in my area to be found and I still think the Explorer would out perform the Ace every day of the week.

Brian....You have some great coins there! I can't wait to see the indians either!

Good luck in 2007! :)

Thats a great year Brian! Good luck in 07! Tsgman

That is really a great year of hunting man. I really like that French centimes,I think I remember when you dug it,and of course all the seateds are fantastic, you have really been hitting them alot at the end of the year. I have to agree with you about the explorer. I only swing the 8 inhc(which is really 7+inches)coil so Im not digging the super deep stuff yet,but I dig coins routinely at 7 inches and I know when I used my stock coil at the beach it would go major deep. The thing I like the most is the ability to really get in the middle of a bunch of trash and pick out coins. My buddy has a 250 and I had a Garrett 550 and for the price they cant be touched. I used his for several hours around his old farmhouse in trashy iron rich soil and the falsing just drove me crazy, didnt find much of nothing. With the Minelab I think I could go into the town dump and pick out some keepers. Once Ive really got a handle on the small coil I think I may get me a WOT and try and work some of the old parks around here. It seems to me that around here in a lot of spots the coins sink really deep.its not uncommon to dig 80's clad at 6 inches 3-5 inches is the norm, even in places less than ten years old the clad will be around 3 inches. hope you get a chance to use the Excal more next year. Im certain that if you research hard enough you can find some old swimming holes. Back in the day when the water was clean people used to go swimming alot,Im sure there are several places along the river there as well as small lakes and creeks,HH...Shoot

Yeah, the Explorer currently can't be beat at a trashy spot. I hunted an iron infested site today. Opened it up to all metal and ferrous sounds and plucked out some keepers. Indian Head, wheat, V nickel, and an old token. Not too shabby!

The ace is great for the price, but I don't understand how people can put it in the same league as the top detectors.

Very impressive finds Brian, 2006 was my first full year also. I was just wondering what your breakdown on silver dimes was. I see you have more seated's vs barbers (not sure if you pictured them all). I only was able to dig up two seated, but ten barbs, and 25 mercs and 18 rosies. You hunt in Indiana??? Just wondering

Nice digs
Doug
