My son started using my minelab explorer and this was his fist days finds with it.
we were at a pk in dundas Ontario Canada that dates from the late 1700s.
This park has been hunted allot by many over the years. I for one have many nice old coins from there.
I only started going there last summer. At this pk the park and recreations dept has its truck yard and garage.
the first time there I stopped to talk to the office and told them i would be detecting in the pk.
I know their is no laws against it in this town. I assured them of my digging technique and they said go ahead.
So I had great success in the proceeding weeks. on one of the days my son was using his detector ( A torsoro Compadre )
and finding a lot of clad and some junk.
after him seeing me pulling up old coin after old coin he started to look a little disappointed in his detector.
So with that I said use mine.
so far in this pk I had not come across any old coins at less than 4" so I told him to dig only 4" or deeper coins.
after digging a few 1940s Penny's ( which made him happier ) he got a good signal at 8" so he called me over to check it .
not a good signal on the compadre but the explorer was getting a strong signal at 8" on the screen. So he dug out a plug and with his pinpointer located a target and plucked out the 1800s Queen Victoria silver nickel. Wow was he happy. the next hour he got a 1911 and 1913 dime at 6" and 7" and 1 wheat.
that was it for him he now wants to use the explorer instead of the torsoro. ( I can't blame him)
So last month I bought a CZ7a for myself for when we detect together.
I did use his compadre and it worked good for me I managed a lg cent at 8" and many Penny's from the 40s at 4"+
I think I just know how to listen better since I have more experience detecting. but he likes the tones and the depth gauge of the explorer.
So this season will be interesting.
