Went back to the cellar hole I hit yesterday, Still no coins, but have dug a handfull of buckles from there in the last few days. After getting 3 broken ones today, I was finaly able to dig a unbroken one. I never get tired of digging these old buckles. Also dug 2 more buttons, there are 6 in the photo they are from today and yesterday at this site. Did come away with a little silver at the end of it, with a nice brooch. No markings but I am sure it is silver. Well thats my story and Im sticking with it. Thanks for looking.

the coins are there mainer, keep digging. but i can see why you don't get tired of those buckles

That's pretty cool. Do you have a picture of the back? I assume everything you dug was old?

I dont have a pic of the back Patch but I can take one. Yeah everything there was old, I assume late 1700's through the mid to late 18's. So I assume the brooch is around that time frame.

Heres the back of it Patch.

Right on. I would think well into the 1800s but is something we don't see often. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a funky Colonial buckle, and now I see I could have simply asked!

Thats alright. It dates to the site anyway. I actually have dug a handfull of silver brooches from older sites over the years. Atleast I assume they date to the site.

After looking at it close this morning with my magnifyer, it may have a hallmark on it on the backside just above the clasp. Looks like maybe an R with a box around it. Hard to tell its worn down.

You got a good site there Mainer ! Nice buckle frame ! and that brooch is awesome ! Coins should be there ! MaineRelic
