So I went to a bank I havent been to in a while. Cashed in some halves as I am looking for other dump banks now that I am banned from my old one. Word to the wise: Don't dump $60000 in halves at one bank in 3 months. Anyway the change counter was running for 2 seconds and I heard the girls talking and one said. "ohh its full? It only took 5 years or something" You guessed it.... I popped my head up and DING DING DING!!! it got my juices flowing. Anyway I bought the bag and I found 2 64s, 9 40%, and a 74S proof. Pickings have been slim for me lately so I was happy with that.

Hey BTW... any of you bag hunters have any luck asking to buy a bag before its full??? Just curious. I think there is one branch of a bank that I go to that will sell them to me. Im going to have to check.

I just did ask and they would only sell a full bag and said they would have to count it first. Maybe I can talk em into just letting me have it without counting. The teller was more willing and even suggested she could order some boxes for me.

Hey bigtime, I picked up a bag with $142.50 in it the other day. "Ganked" one 66. Others have sold me what was in the coin counting machines at the time. I sorta get the idea that some tellers just make up the rules based on what kind of mood they are in at that time. There has never seemed to be much continuity among the banks as far as how they handle coins (both selling and receiving). Good luck!

I buy bags from coin machines when I can get them.

Some banks have bank policies where they will not allow the branches to sell them.

But of those that will sell the bags, I believe the banks are different because of the type of coin machine they have. Some will sell whatever they have even when the bag is not full, and some will only sell the bag when its full.

The ones that will only sell full bags have the type of machine where it does not have the capability to reset a bag to zero. So if they pull off a partial bag, the only option they would have is to zero out the whole machine and run all the coins of all denominations back through it to get back to where they were before minus the halves. Either that or the teller's don't know how to reset the machine, so they refuse (which also happens).

The ones that will sell partial bags have a way to reset only the half dollar bag easily.

I find smaller local banks are more likely to sell the bags than the national chains within large cities. Once you get out in the country most will happily sell you the bag.

Hey Gman, what you said makes plenty of sense to me. The funny thing down here around Atlanta is that I have hardly found any banks that even have coin counting machines. Over time I have run across maybe 4 or 5 banks that have offered me halves from a machine. The bags that I have received (full or partial) have not been very good to me anyhow. Have had best luck with banks that have just a few (1-10) hand-rolled halves. By the way my brother lives in Minnetonka, but he is not interested in crh. He just laughs when I tell him about it. Good luck!
