Good ID. I think its a General Service Army Button.

Alderan3... could you please post some additional photos? I'm requesting them because the single photo you posted showing your button's face appears to show something I don't recall ever seeing until now ...a "raised border" surrounding the Model-1854-to-1875 US Army enlisted-man's "general service" eagle emblem. The "raised border" I seem to see on your button might be just an optical illusion in the photo, or a result of damage to the button. So, for certainty's sake, I'd like to see photos shot from various angles, and especially, an "on-edge" view.

The easy way to do an "on-edge" photo is to set the button (laying flat) on the very edge of a table, lean down, and shoot horizontally. That will show how much of a "dome" the button has.
