Hello Everyone,

P4250404.webpP4250406.webpP4250408.webpP4250409.webpTrying to id this piece here and have no information with it other than it is part of the a family estate collection from Van Buren, AR. We know that it has been in the family since the 19th century. Looks like an axe head but can anyone help further? Thank You!

It's definitely an intriguing shape, however I've never seen one like that or made from that material. It is roughly worked, to the point that I'm not sure human hands had any intervention in its creation. I'm not saying it's definitely not an artifact, but my money is on a no. I've found several pieces in the fields of Ohio that are actually similar in shape but clearly weren't worked. if it were worked by any native Americans it would have a clean sharp pointed edge much like a modern Axe and you would see the knapping marks towards tthe edge. Just my opinion.

Nice cobble chopped axe! I have found many simple cobble choppers, sometimes in a small cache, so there is no doubt in my mind that this was purposely fashioned into an axe!
