Found this while detecting an early 1800's farm house, Not sure what it is, it appears to have had a pin on the back and is about 1 1/2" long and 1 1/2" wide. The metal is very soft, I found it at about 4" under a big root.

I was thinking it was a brooch, with the divots being where some sort of rhinestones or bling were glued in, with a larger oval "stone" at top? Are there holes at the top corners (it looks like maybe there was, and they're full of dirt) if so, could have been a pendant? Anyway, costume jewelry is my guess so far.

Since it is 3 inches long, that's somewhat large to be a brooch, although there are/were some brooches that size. With the information I have, right now I'm thinking it is a ladies buckle. When looking at the back, is there an opening or area where a pin may have been broken off? The other end is smooth and closed. If both ends are smooth and closed, the 'nub' could have fit in a hole on a belt. Interesting find :) Breezie

I was amused at what you named the photos. :laughing7:

I notice one of Breezies attachments is gone. This happens to me many times.

Is there a way to stop losing our attachments? Its bad enough that it takes at least 5 times the time and effort with unnecessary extra steps (Go Advanced, Manage Attachments, Upload, etc, etc) to post with the new formatt. To me this is frustrating to do all the extra work posting only to lose it on a computer glitch that should have been fixed by now.

Am I wrong? Is it just me or my computer or my browser? I dont notice anyone else complaining anymore. It seems to me the images disappear using the "Insert Image" feature. The "Advanced/Manage Attachments" feature is useless but at least it works.

Oh BTW Breezie the buckle ID sounds good. Could it be the butterfly type?

The back page still doesnt work properly either.

Dale, I think the lost attachment happens when you edit, and then don't re-post the pic. I've noticed that happening several times, but sometimes I can edit, and the attachment stays, so who knows? :dontknow:

As far as the item is concerned, yes, I think it could be a butterfly type. Good eye! Breezie

I think you are correct. But we shouldnt have to re-post the pic during an edit. IMO the whole formatt stinks. It needs a complete overhaul. It needs to be made user-freindly.

However I also believe its here to stay. I notice the new system is great for advertising and it brings in new members. But unfortunately its not user-freindly. I notice most old members have accepted it because they have no choice. Keep in mind that a forum that doesnt evolve and improve will eventually be left behind. Marc listened to complaints and suggestions, constantly improving and evolving. The end result was almost perfect but was discarded by the new owners. I dont see many improvements here in the past year.

Maybe I need to change my browser. Im using IE because it works best with my files. Im complaing because I care and would like to come back and continue helping. But I wont be back if the site cannot be made user freindly and the slow, time consuming, ridiculous, unnecessary steps are not eliminated and/or simplified.

Hey Breezie thanks for the reply, But I was way off on the measurement it is 1 1/2" at its longest and 1 1/2" at its widest point sorry about that I didn't have it in front of me when I posted it. Kind of a catchy file name huh!! lol

LOL RedCard, so since it is 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches, I would think it is a stick pin, hat pin, lapel pin or any piece of jewelry that would have a pin as shown in the pic below. All of this hinges on whether the 'nub' on the back is broken and as shown. If you could post a pic of that or either tell us, then we could confirm the ID. :) Breezie

BCH, I know exactly what you mean. As far as a browser is concerned, I use Mozilla Firefox. I find it much faster.

Dale, I changed to Google Chrome shortly after the new owners changed the format here. I haven't had a problem since then to be honest with you. I was a die hard IE user, I don't even use it anymore. I don't know how Firefox is, I never really liked it.

As for the pin... it's a stickpin I believe for reasons explained by nhbenz above. Also evidenced by the lack of a closure mark on the back.

edit- I guess I took too long to reply. Breezie does a much better job!

I tried Google Chrome and it wont work with my extensive files. I could not save files on Google Chrome. They go to a different place.

I dont want to give up thousands of files to start over in Google Chrome.

RedCard, Thanks for the pics. I think it's a safe bet to green check this one as a stick pin. :) Breezie
