I'm not sure exactly what you've got there Dennis, but I don't see a 'hat pin'. :icon_scratch:

Looks like something you would unscrew from the top of something else.

Military collar disk - or what's left of one. The thumb screw looks plated or chromed. I'd guess a Type III which is 1937 - 43, but wow... It's almost impossible to tell.

Haven’t found an exact match yet but it is very similar to Sturgis Anniversary Pins,seen an image that looked like a match but it wa in a collection photo so couldn’t tell for sure
