Hi all,

I found this oddball button this evening near a back yard clothes line but have never seen a button quite like it..it has a ridge around it and the number "3" on each side. It's also very heavy, unlike all other buttons I've found.

Thanks for any info you can share.

It's a hem weight. Sewn into the hem of a coat, cloak, robe, etc. so that it will hang properly. Also used in the hems of drapes for the same purpose. Hard to say how old it is, as they still make them today.
