I found this in SE Pennsylvania yesterday. At first I thought it was a belt buckle but it has no hooks then I thought it might be a sling plate but the design doesn't seem to match the pictures I have found online. It is 2 " in diameter and has a definite "R" on the reverse. At first I thought it said RIKER but I am not positive. On the obverse at the 11o'clock position in the picture it appears to have the letter "A" a space posibly followed by "UN" . Or maybe I am seeing things.
I am new to relic hunting but have been cleaning and identifying ancient coins for years. I am unsure if using the same techniques to clean it will be detrimental to any possible value.

I am also new to this site and apparently can't figure out how to post a photo. Perhaps I need to use my desktop instead of a tablet?

The letters I think I can see on the front are actually at the 1 o'clock position..

It's a bridle rosette.
