Went hunting today in a private yard before the weather turned cold..I found 7 wheat pennies, 26 Lincoln memorial cents, 3 quarters, 2 dimes and this neat looking bell.

BELL.jpg

It has a heavy ball inside that jingles around when you shake it, and I didn't even realize it until I looked at the photo but it looks like it says INDIA at the bottom. It is in great shape and looks to be brass or copper. My guess is that it belonged to a cat or dog at one time..the house whose yard I searched was built in the 1950's. Any help IDing this is appreciated.

India for sure. Looks a little bit older than most of the Pier One Imports variety due to a cleaner looking cast. I used to work next door to an interior design importer place; tons of brassware in his warehouse, mostly from India. I was told that Thailand produces far superior brass. The more you know.

What metal ball does it have?

The early ones have iron which normally rust away.

Yours looks modernish to me.

Pretty item & complete which is nice ;D

Thanks for the replies..what a strange thing to find in a back yard.

Other than the design and "INDIA" there's nothing else on it..I don't know what the ball is made of, but it doesn't seem to be the same metal as the bell itself..it's heavy though.

The bells are Medieval & later Crotal & Rumbler Bells for Sheep, goats, horse, and cows.

Already posted my gold in the best section.
