White's XLT (2), Garrett Ace 250, Garrett AT Pro, Garrett AT Gold
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
So, I got back to a house I was at many years ago. There is a lot of garbage in the yard, and I figured I should give the AT Pro a shot here.
Got a bunch of clad coins, and some iron fake outs... Even found 2 Quoits (like horseshoes, but these are metal donuts basically...) then I found a small tombac button, and that made me slow down a little. A ton of melted aluminum balls here and there, ash all in the soil everywhere, what a nightmare.
But then I popped out a musket ball!!

Pure white... Awesome.

Some more junk, and then an item that I had no clue what it really was, and I guess I just didn't think about it hard enough, but it's part of a belt buckle, I'm just missing the inside part that might have a person, animal, or words even... Definitely thinking it is military and civil war aged at least...

And lastly, I found one of my favorite things... An 1845 Large Cent!!

This was a tough hunt, but worth it. I almost drove past the house too, literally in the last second I decided turn into the driveway... Let me know what you all think about the belt buckle... Does anyone know exactly what the other side would have had on it??

Well, this is the first i have posted completely from my phone... The rain here gave me the time to figure it out!! But, thats not exactly how i was planning the pictures to be placed...

Enjoy anyway! :occasion14:

That's a nice looking large cent! Congrats!

Not sure where in PA you dug that buckle, but it is a military wreath buckle.

The vast majority of them were confederate civil war buckles.

It was just at a friends house actually. It is older than i thought, she said the house was built in 1810, i guessed 1840's or even 1850's... Northeast Pa

Thanks for a little insight on the piece... Very interesting

What part of the state are you in?

Northeast... Poconos

I love large cents and that one is awesome! Congratz!

Thanks... Not too bad for 170 years old. :-) definitely the nicest I've found in the dirt...

Very nice LC... with full "Liberty". Someone dropped that when it was brand new. Very nice find.

If I were you, I would hit that place again, and attempt to find the tongue part of that buckle... it very well could say "CSA" on it.

Best of luck to you!

How cool would that be Tom!! I have full permission for the place and can go whenever I please, also, there is an old farm field literally right next to the house that I will detect when the beans are done... :-) exciting times for a change...
