So I havent posted in a week or so and the fids have been piling up so here goes... Christmas morning 9 am steady rain about 40 degrees, got a new diggin tool from santa so I had to get out. Hunted around an old football field near me with some woods behind. I know this area dates to around 1900,because of the rain spet most of my time in these woods Ive been wanting to hunt. Hunted for a couple of hours only modern coinage not even a wheat but a good dime to penny ratio
So I had to work the next day heres a couple of pics from my office, can you tell Ive been there?
Got done early figured Id check out this old partial house Ive hunted one time before,
second hole I dig out pops a merc(45)can you find it in the picture?
found a wheat and a chain of some sort then its off to a football stadium Ive hunted once before, locked up so hunted around the outside, dug some clad
Saturday I decided to go down to a really old section of town, lotta demos, rehabs empty lots, tons of pulltabs and bottlecaps gave it a solid 2 hours dug a little bit of clad and a lot of trash about to hang it up figure Ill dig this last wine bottle cap but its a coin couldnt make out any detail hoped it was a wheat threw it in my poutch. Stop by my buddys machine shop and show him my finds and discover Ive dug my very first indian 1898 not in real good shape but I was pleased as punch. His shop sits among many late 1800's homes and he rents the one next door to him for storage. The yard is very small and is just an awful place to hunt. The machine shop has sat there for 40-50 years and there is any and every type of metal(nuts, bolts, scraps shavings along with pulltabs and my persoal favorite at this site, copper turnings). So hes out there with me I have the headphones unplugged so he can hear the explorer and Im cussing him about what a terrible spot this is but I have to hunt it. he thinks Im magic when I pull three memmys and a dime out of what is basically a scrap-yard. He is building some sort of fence and has a few post holes dug out so I swing around the dug dirt and get this wonderful song playing on the machine. At 1 inch I pull out a copper coin bigger than a penny but cant make it out thought it was a LC till we got it cleaned up a little, its a old token good for 5 cents, all I can make out,its soaking in olive oil now. Hit one more spot til dark, dug a wheat and a sherrifs star and a little more clad
New years eve we went down to the in-laws in gods country(Kentucky). They have an area where a tobacco farmers little home used to sit,but has been gone since at least the fourtys. I hunted out there in the dark for 2 and half hours digging anything I heard, only nails one rusted handle and one coin which was worn so smooth I couldnt at first ID. After some olive oil its a wheat no way to get a date I mean this sucker is smooth,at least I didnt strike out.
Got out tonight for a couple of hours to an old farm Ive worked once before, dug a lot of pennys then a really odd sounds yields this 1950 Nederlands 25 cent coin, really intersesting, dug one wheat 2 dimes and a quarter and a pretty neat old copper knob, hope you like the pics and thanks for lookin'...Shoot
