I posted this in Today's finds but would like to see if these can be dated or be defined by the experts in here The bullet is 11mm dia., 17mm high and 38mm circ. the weight is .5oz The button is a Scovill MFG. and there are a boatload of images on google but I'd trust you all the most. I believe that is a 1960's to present T/C Maxi-Ball for modern muzzleloaders.

Charlie is all over it... Maxi Ball round.

The button is an Indian Wars button. You can tell because the eagle's neck is long, and the shield on his chest is very prominent.Made after the CW, up until 1902, when they switched to Great Seal button.

The button is sweet, lots of gilt on it.

That button looks as if it's been well kept. I'm not sure how you aquired it but it's a keeper.

4 inches down Icewing, The Florida sand , not at the beach of course, is really quite good to the things we find. Most all of the coinage is very well preserved, unlike the dig I did in PA where all the wheats were basically orange colored and toasted badly. Don't know about you boys up north or out west, but I (and Cambria09) dig at least 100 to 150 holes in a 4 hour day easy. The sandy soil just falls away and everything drains quickly. No rocks....nice...

Carolina Tom is correct, your button is known as an Indian Wars era US Army "eagle button" for an enlisted-man's uniform. Getting more specific for you about its age... that version of "eagle button" was issued from 1875 until 1902, when it was replaced by the "Great Seal" US Army button.
