Solved Regular Small Letter issue 58 Flying Eagle Cent, Variety???

I cannot find this coin variety, my research does not show this reverse pattern on a 1858, only 56 & 57
coins, it gave a reading on my etrac like a nickel or shotgun case.
Thought it was silver at first :laughing7:

Herbie the site you're using shows pattern coins,, not regular issue. that's where the confusion is coming from. Yours is a very nice example of the design that was used for production. There are large & small letter obverse varieties but they all have the same reverse as yours. Pattern coins are more or less, experimental designs that may or may not make it into regular production coins and are normally very rare and not intended to be released. HH.
